PICO8

I recently discovered the Pico-8 fantasy console which is a program designed to emulate the limitations of early computers by restricting the amount of resources that are available to the developer. Limitation like only having 16 colours forces you to focus on the important parts of the content.

I really love PICO8 and before I knew it I had installed it on my PC, Mac and my Raspberry Pi. I couldn’t get enough of it. The Graphics functions reminded me of some HTML canvas work that I have done so I started by porting some javascript code into Lua. I found PICO’s subset of Lua to be a really fun and quick scripting language to get the hang of. Below are a few gifs of some of the Carts I have made. Most of them focus on the Graphics API to see what I can create using only code.
